I am an Arizona native, lifelong Democrat and mother of two. My family has a proud heritage of service, diplomacy, and community leadership.
112 years ago, my great -grandfathers met with President Theodore Roosevelt to annex the western part of the Navajo Nation onto the reservation. That leadership planted the seed of collaboration that grew family connections, sharing the Navajo language, which culminated in the experimental use of the Navajo language to ultimately win WWII.
As a combat war veteran of the Persian Gulf War, I served in the US Army for eight years. Utilizing the G.I. Bill, I attended Northern Arizona University, earning both a BA and MA degree in History and Educational Psychology.
I am your current State Senator for Arizona's Legislative District 7 and a former State House Representative, serving in the Fifty-First Arizona State Legislature (2013-2014).
Historic bipartisan accomplishments include passage of Arizona's Native American Day, a recognized state holiday, passage of the Affordable Healthcare Act and passage of state aviation funding for tribal airports.
I have the knowledge, experience and leadership skills to restore and increase public education funding, advocate for affordable health care, improve public safety and protect Arizona’s most vulnerable populations.
Investing in our children's future should not include taxpayer dollars going to for-profit prisons. Jobs, transportation, infrastructure, and responsible planning are vital to Arizona's future.
Environmental stewardship, water justice, tribal sovereignty, social and economic justice for women and LGBTQI are issues Arizona must start doing better.
I ask for your support in my re-election and VOTE on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020
Senator Jamescita Peshlakai
